Pre-Infusion
During your pre-infusion you will have your consultation with Dr. Kendrick. He will obtain your health history and ensure you do not have any contraindications to the ketamine infusion. After your consultation is done with Dr. Kendrick, you will meet your anesthesia provider who will be overseeing your ketamine infusion. They will review your history, start an IV, obtain vital signs and answer any further questions you have about the infusion.
Infusion
During the infusion we want you to be a comfortable so we strive our best to provide you with a relaxing environment. Most patients tend to sleep through their infusion although we have had a few who remain awake and suggest activites such as coloring for them. During the infusion your vital signs will continuously be monitored. An anesthesia provider will adjust your ketamine infusion as needed depending on if you are experiencing any side effects. Each infusion takes anywhere between 45 min- 1 hour.
Post-Infusion
After the infusion is complete, we will continue to monitor your vital signs until you are completely recovered. Ketamine has a very short half life, so if you experience any side effects they should be gone within 10 minutes of completing the infusion. Your IV will be removed prior to your discharge home. You will need a driver home after each infusion and we suggest telling them the process is roughly 2 hours per infusion.
